Joint Patrol by Jiangxi and Fujian in Wuyishan National Park: Beidou Positioning Ensures Safety in the Deep Mountains 

Wuyishan National Park spans the provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi, which have broken down barriers through coordinated legislation and joint law enforcement, while simultaneously upgrading their patrol systems. 

In the Jiangxi section of Wuyishan National Park, during a joint patrol conducted by the Yejiachang Protection Station and the Fujian Tongmu Protection Station, the person in charge explained that infrared cameras, drones, and the resource management system have provided researchers with more baseline data, while patrol personnel are also equipped with patrol assistant software and the BeiDou positioning system to ensure their safety. This setup is not an isolated case—the Jiangxi section of Wuyishan National Park has already established four BeiDou base stations, achieving full coverage. An integrated “sky-ground” monitoring network, built by combining technologies such as BeiDou navigation and AI recognition, enables real-time positioning and monitoring even in pristine forest areas where communication signals cannot reach. For patrol officers, the significance of BeiDou extends beyond simply “knowing where they are”; it lies in the ability to transmit location data even in areas without public network coverage, providing an “invisible safety lock” for every patrol deep in the mountains. 

As the Yangtze River’s “Dual Navigation Route” Enters Trial Operation, Onboard Beidou Terminals Serve as the Captain’s “Second Pair of Eyes” 

Recently, the Yangtze River mainstem conducted its first trial run of a dual-lane navigation system, which is equivalent to designating “fast lanes” and “slow lanes” on the flowing waterway; the vessel routing system along the Liaoning coast will also take effect on August 15, as waterborne transportation shifts from “relying on experience” to “relying on data.” 

On the Yangtze River, ship pilots now rely on two tools to identify navigation aids and select their routes: the “Yangtze e+” app on their smartphones and the shipboard BeiDou terminal installed on the bridge. Opening the “Yangtze e+” app provides access to comprehensive and dynamically updated electronic navigational charts for the Yangtze River. Currently covering more than 2,800 kilometers of the main stem of the Yangtze and over 5,600 kilometers of the Yangtze River system, the app allows skippers to view key information—such as water depth, navigation marks, and bridge clearance—in real time. The onboard Beidou terminal transmits the vessel’s position and status back to the electronic river chart, working in conjunction with AIS to bridge the “last mile” of ship-to-shore communication. According to data from the Yangtze River Communications Administration, third-generation Beidou onboard smart terminals have been deployed on more than 21,000 vessels. While multi-lane navigation routes ensure that vessels of all sizes follow their designated paths, Beidou works quietly in the background to pinpoint data such as “where a vessel is, which route it’s taking, and the water depth,” ensuring that the principle of “using deep water where it’s deep and shallow water where it’s shallow” is more than just a slogan. 

Hebei's 2026 Flood Control Drill Showcases Beidou-Enabled Text Messaging on Mobile Phones 

On July 4, the Hebei Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Command organized a comprehensive emergency drill for flood control and rescue operations in 2026, simulating extreme emergencies—such as floods, landslides, and disruptions to roads, power, and internet connectivity—caused by a typhoon combined with extremely heavy rainfall, with coordinated efforts across five levels: provincial, municipal, county, township, and village. 

During the drill, various emergency response teams showcased a range of advanced equipment, including Beidou text-messaging phones. Their purpose directly addresses the most critical challenge in flood control—when floods wash away cell towers and public networks collapse, leaving stranded individuals “unable to even say where they are.” Beidou SMS does not require a ground-based network and can send short messages containing location information; each message supports 20 Chinese characters or “18 Chinese characters plus a location,” allowing disaster victims to transmit their location and a brief description of their situation. Before this year’s flood season, China Mobile Hebei had partnered with five manufacturers—including Huawei, Honor, and Xiaomi—to launch 69 models of Beidou SMS-enabled phones. The company also rolled out “Beidou + Tiantong” dual-satellite communication services province-wide, allowing users to access the service without changing their SIM card or phone number. Behind this small mobile phone displayed at the drill lies a comprehensive emergency communication system designed to ensure “connectivity even when the network is down”—with satellites in the sky and Beidou in hand, the location and voices of those in disaster-stricken areas can be transmitted.
